Tutorme.com is not typical of the online writing services that we review. While it is an academic assistance company, it is focused on tutoring services rather than writing products for students. And so, our TutorMe review will look a bit different. Still, because it is an academic assistance program, we believe it should be reviewed so that students considering the use of this service will have factual information before forking over their money. 

We used most of the same criteria that we use for our regular writing services reviews. We wanted to see the following:

• A well-organized website that was easy to navigate and that has simple, clear information and content for its visitors and users.
• Information about the tutors employed by the company – their backgrounds, degrees, etc.
• Pricing and benefits in comparison to other online tutoring services
• Feedback and comments from actual customers that we have found on the web or that were submitted to us
• Overall, we are looking for a service that is reliable and can be trusted to deliver what it promises

 

Quality of Services Offered

Tutor Me is a subsidiary of a larger education corporation known as Bridgepoint Learning and is located in California. 

It offers tutoring services in virtually every academic area, high school through graduate programs. Its website spends a lot of time speaking to STEM tutoring services, although students can find any type of tutoring they may need. The list of academic areas is clearly posted for selection. In terms of comprehensiveness, quality is there.

There is also a link for someone to apply to become a tutor with the company. It appears that tutor credentials are required and verified.

Relative to quality of services, the on-site testimonials are all positive as we would expect to see. Off-site feedback is somewhat mixed. Some students are quite happy with the services they received and felt that their grades improved as a result. Others were not as complimentary. It looks like satisfaction with Tutor Me is a factor of the tutor’s skills and the relationship that is developed between each tutor and student. Since it is the student who selects his tutor, this places a lot of responsibility on the customer to choose wisely. 

Writers and Customer Support Agents

There are no writers. There are tutors. Their profiles are available by subject categories, and students can communicate with them directly prior to making a selection. What bothered us most about this entire process was the fact that many tutors listed in specific subject categories have no educational background in those subjects. For example, we found English tutors with degrees in engineering, business, etc. and from foreign universities. 

Students place an order for a specific tutoring need, and tutors then contact that student and “apply” for the position. It is up to the student to review a tutor’s background and conduct “interviews” before making a selection.

The other bothersome thing is that there is not any real way to talk with customer support agents. It appears that the company is basically a “match” service that simply handles the “housekeeping” tasks of collecting and distributing money. 

Pricing and Discounts

TutorMe prices are set on a tiered basis. There are monthly plans that provide for one or two hours, with a fixed fee, and additional charges per minute. There is an additional option at $1 per minute for a “pay as you go” plan. Overall, students should be prepared to pay a hefty amount if they should need a good amount of help. 
Students will find not Tutorme.com discounts, Tutor Me promo codes, or any Tutorme coupon code for special pricing. The pricing is fixed and non-negotiable. 

While students who have made a bad match can request a different tutor, they will not be refunded for the time a tutor has already spent with them.

Payment methods are safe and secured through a third-party SL-certified processor, one that is used by many large online retailers.

Additional Freebies and Features

The company does offer a free trial that will allow students to see if the service is worth it, and this is commendable. We could not find any additional features nor a Tutorme.com BBB membership.

Is Tutor Me safe? Yes. All feedback that we we found did not have any concerns or complaints about the process or money paid for services that were not given.

Conclusion 

It is difficult to assign a rating to Tutorme.com in our usual manner. There are no products for us to review as there are with online writing services. If we look at pros, we can say that the company does have honest and clear information about its services and its prices. And many students state that they did receive good help from their selected tutors.

What we do not like is this: It is up to the student to choose his tutor. If he does not ask the right questions, he could end up wasting some money before he finds the right match. 

The other negative is this: A student can only get to the website through the Google Chrome browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will have to download Google Chrome to get on. We would suggest that TutorMe change this in order to accommodate everyone’s browser choice. 

The tutor profiles we reviewed are a bit sparse in terms of information, so students will have to dig deeper with their conversations before making a selection. 

If we had to give a rating based upon our 1-5 point scale, we would give Tutorme.com a 3.
